4 Ways to Elevate Your Online Presence

Note: I originally wrote this blog post in the early days of COVID (2 years ago, wow!).. but these tips to elevate your online presence are evergreen. I’ve made some updates for 2022.

1. Website

If you don’t already have a website, there’s no better time than now to get one up and running. If you need help, email me at hello@gretchenkamp.com to get started. If you already have a website, now is a great time to do any maintenance that you’ve been putting off, or work on adding some new content. Search engines rank websites that are updated regularly higher than ones that never change. For my blog post on SEO, click here.

2. Online Portfolios & Resumes

If you have a full time job, update your print resume as well as you LinkedIn profile. Even if you aren’t looking for a new job, it never hurts to be prepared.

If you’re a creative professional such as a designer or photographer, update your online portfolios. I love Behance.net and I’ve gotten some amazing clients that way. There are many options that are specific for photographers for sharing their portfolios online. In addition to your website, this is a great way to get your work in front of more eyes—which is always a good thin!  Research what options are available for your industry.

If you have a service-based business or a brick and mortar business, if you haven’t already, set up or improve your Google Business and Yelp pages. Reach out to former clients and ask them to leave you reviews. It never hurts to return the favor.

If you have a beauty business, as many of my clients do, set an online booking system (if you don’t have one already.) Booker.com and Vagaro.com are popular with my clients. The easier it is for clients to book with you, the more business you’ll get.

3. Social Media & Pinterest

Make sure your social media profiles are up to date, and NOW is the time to get ACTIVE on them. More people are scrolling away on their phones and laptops than ever. Don’t miss this opportunity to be posting regularly, which means you’ll probably need to work on creating content. If it’s not in your budget to do a photoshoot, find new ways to repurpose old content, both photos and captions. Set aside a chunk of time each day or a few times a week to plan your next 5 to 10 posts. I love to use an app called Preview to plan my IG grid so I can see how photos will look next to each other before I hit post.

Although it’s commonly mistaken for social media, Pinterest is actually a search engine. Pinterest is the #1 way I drive traffic to my website, not social media. If you aren’t using Pinterest to promote your business, you’re missing a huge opportunity. I highly recommend checking out Jenna Kutcher’s Pinterest Lab.

4. Start a Blog

A blog is the easiest way to add new content to your website regularly, which will improve your SEO (aka how you rank on search engines like Google.) It’s also a great way to share your expertise and position yourself as an expert in your field. Utilize Pinterest to drive traffic to your blog.

Psst.. are you sick and tired of figuring out what to cook or order for dinner every night?

I was so over it. I tried Blue Apron and Hello Fresh, and I loved the convenience of the meal kits... but they were so expensive, I just couldn’t justify it. Then I found Dinnerly.

Dinnerly has allowed me to take the guess-work out of dinner completely, and quit grocery shopping — which felt like a huge waste of my precious time. But what really sold me on this particular brand is the price. I still can’t believe that Dinnerly meals are only $4.99 per person per meal, and they are literally the exact same thing as Blue Apron and Hello Fresh. (I’m talking the same exact chicken with the same packaging from the same vendor.)

I’ve been using the Dinnerly kits to make dinner for myself and Ham 3 nights a week for the last year, since we started living together. So I can vouch for them that the quality is consistent. In addition to being super affordable, they have so much variety and the meals are incredibly tasty. They have options for vegetarians, pescatarians, as well as low-calorie and low-carb. The meals are pretty healthy and balanced too — you know we eat clean and are a very health conscious couple. Plus you can make them a bit healthier depending on what type of oil you cook with, how much butter or ghee you use, and how much salt you use.

You know I don’t recommend any brands or products that I don’t absolutely love, and I recommend Dinnerly to all my friends.
